Sunandar Agus is a self-taught painter. Pursued higher education in colleges of Foreign Languages. But his desire to become a painter seems beat all the science that existed in formal education. That's why he decided to stay in Bali as a painter until 1976. Even then lived in Saudi Arabia and Cairo, Egypt to study calligraphy and ancient Egyptian mythology, then continued to live in Amsterdam, Netherlands to studied modern art.

Sunandar Agus's paintings is a life, contemplation, tremors from the spirit and his passion to experiment and his quest in the world of painting. Its Its activity is like an exploration of subjects that are not exhausted done by the painter. It clearly shows us that he is one of the artists that we rarely find these days, where many artists are quickly satisfied and only a mere aesthetic pursuit that only refers to the market desire by ignoring honesty of expression and a willingness to do a search- personal searches, which may be contrary to the desires of the buyers. Surely what is being done by the painter is a private establishment that is necessary for someone who intends to become an artist. Strength of character is the bone of every work produced by artists of this community.
